Somatic Experiencing™

Somatic Experiencing releases traumatic shock and stuck patterns of fight, flight and freeze, reducing trauma symptoms and boosting resilience.

Somatic Attachment Therapy™

Somatic Attachment therapy seeks to understand and resolve difficulties in relationships arising from problems with early attachment to our main carers, and from adult relationships.

Neuroaffective Touch™

NeuroAffective Touch emphasises the body’s primary role in therapy. Through touch, self-contact and relational attunement, NAT helps with early traumas that cannot be reached by words alone.

Deep Brain Reorienting™

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) is based firmly in neuroscience research and clinical experience. I am currently training in this approach which is relatively new in New Zealand.

About Julie

Providing care for people who are troubled by symptoms of anxiety or the effects of difficult past experience, and for those who are interested in becoming more embodied.

Julie is a retired medical doctor now offering assistance for people with anxiety, low mood or past trauma.

Informed by the latest thinking on how best to resolve the effects of difficult experiences on mind, body and nervous system, Julie is available to work with individuals and groups, either in-person or online.

Having graduated from the Welsh National School of Medicine, Julie worked as a GP for many years in the West Highlands of Scotland where she provided a full range of services, from care during pregnancy and birth right through to end of life care at home.

Working in such a remote setting involved being a first responder at emergencies, and making house visits by boat. She also worked in Edinburgh before moving to New Zealand in 2008. Her experience in the Greater Wellington area includes General Practice, Student Health and work for a Māori health care provider, before transitioning to her new role as a Somatic Therapist in 2020.

I love working in a way that is complementary to and supportive of mainstream medical practice.

Continuing her long-held interest in holistic health and wellbeing, she completed the three year Somatic Experiencing™ training in 2021, Neuroaffective Touch™ in 2022 and is currently studying Deep Brain Reorienting™ with Dr Frank Corrigan.

Julie has also explored mind-body connection through 5Rhythms® conscious dance, (qualified teacher 2008) Bio-energy therapy, (Diploma course 2003) and the practice of Yoga, meditation and QiGong.

She is now based in Kapiti Coast, providing care for people who are troubled by symptoms of anxiety or the effects of difficult past experience including PTSD, and for those who are interested in becoming more embodied.

As Julie is now retired from medical practice, she can no longer give medical services such as writing prescriptions, and works in a way that is complementary to and supportive of mainstream medical practice.
