Somatic Experiencing™

Somatic Experiencing releases traumatic shock and stuck patterns of fight, flight and freeze, reducing trauma symptoms and boosting resilience.

Somatic Attachment Therapy™

Somatic Attachment therapy seeks to understand and resolve difficulties in relationships arising from problems with early attachment to our main carers, and from adult relationships.

Neuroaffective Touch™

NeuroAffective Touch emphasises the body’s primary role in therapy. Through touch, self-contact and relational attunement, NAT helps with early traumas that cannot be reached by words alone.

Deep Brain Reorienting™

Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) is based firmly in neuroscience research and clinical experience. I am currently training in this approach which is relatively new in New Zealand.

Conscious Dance / Movement

I am passionate about conscious dance and completed Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms™ dance teacher training in 2008. Conscious movement is a wonderful route to embodiment – enjoyable, connected and deeply transformative. A

s a personal practice, for me it was a way to release the stress of a difficult week working as a doctor, or to process events in my life without the need for words. I taught 5Rhythms for 3 years in Wellington, and led a number of weekend courses, as well as organising workshops for international teachers.

While I no longer teach dance classes, this background informs the way I invite movement in our sessions, as a valuable resource and a fast-track to embodiment.

Other Influences

Other influences include 20 years as a student of Yoga, and in alignment with this, I have a diploma in Bio-Energy therapy based in the Chakra system and some knowledge of Western Tantra and Kundalini awakening.

Meditation is an important resource for me, and I have learned from 4 different traditions – mindfulness, non-dual meditation, Taoist water method, and Sufi meditation from the Naqshbandi tradition.

I have a small amount of experience in Martial Arts including Karate and Aikido, and some familiarity with Qigong and other approaches based in Chinese tradition.

I participated in a transformational group process with Don Hanson for 20 years. Don is an American teacher whose work is unique and well ahead of its time, being strongly embodied yet also working with thought patterns in a way that is deceptively gentle but facilitates deep shifts.

Creativity is a great joy and resource for me, with poetry, creative writing and sculpture being favourites. I completed the Foundation course at the Learning Connexion in Lower Hutt, which was wonderful and highly recommended.
